Human pluripotent stem cells to study cardiac differentiation and maturation, and to model regeneration.

We are a research group in Buenos Aires working with cardiomyocytes derived from human pluripotent stem cells. These cells remain developmentally immature, and no current method brings them to a truly adult-like state. Our goals are to develop strategies that push them further toward maturity, and to use these more mature cells to find ways of reactivating their capacity to divide.

Cardiomyocyte Maturation

We study how human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes acquire the structural, metabolic, molecular, and functional features associated with maturation.

Cardiomyocyte Proliferation & Regeneration

We study how cardiomyocyte maturation relates to the loss of proliferative competence, and whether proliferation can be reactivated in mature human cardiomyocytes.
